ABOUT
Hi :) I’m Erica, a UX and visual designer living in the Seattle area. I have 25 years of industry experience, fourteen years of which I’ve earned while working at Microsoft.
At Microsoft, I started my journey designing for MSN Health and Wellness where I designed one of the first online health trackers. Soon thereafter, I moved over to the entertainment channel where I spent most of my days designing experiences for awards and special entertainment programming like the Grammys, Oscars, Country Music Awards and Emmys. I also worked with the video team to design exclusive experiences and promotions for movies like Tron, Twilight, and Cars2.
As a part of the design team for Microsoft News, I collaborated with designers in the redesign of the Finance, Autos & Weather web experiences. I also spent a few years as one of the lead designers on the newsfeed for the browser's new tab page where I focused on customization, personalization experiences, card and feed frameworks.
In 2016, I moved to the Microsoft Edge browser team. I worked on core experiences like history, favorites, downloads, and settings. I also worked on feature enhancements like visual history and activities. As part of the Envisioning & Incubation feature team, I worked on several concepts like the browser you can talk to, global media control, shopping, article intelligence and collections. During this time, I also had the opportunity to lead the Growth team on other areas of the browser like Rewards and Give mode, Meet Now, Browser for Gaming, Accelerators, PWA's & App search companion. While working in the browser space, I also worked closely with the Windows team on dual screen experiences which focused on envisioning new touch and multitasking experiences.
While on the Edge team, I was also leading the Expression & Engagement design team where we are working on delighters and personalization experiences. We worked on creating new 3D dynamic profile pictures and exclusive themes. I've worked closely in this space collaborating with Marketing's Microsoft Cultural Moments like Black History Month, Women's History, Native American Indigenous, Pride and more.
The past couple of years I have been focused on the mobile space. Starting with the incubation of Copilot (AKA Bing Chat). Currently I am working with the Windows team envisioning the future of the mobile Start app.
Before Microsoft, I started a design company, sharp pixel, with another designer friend. Together, we spent almost 9 years focused on helping local businesses refresh or create new brands. We initiated brand awareness conversations and steered branding concepts, visual direction, and brand storytelling for clients. I led marketing redirection efforts and shaped design scope with everything from developing company names and taglines to designing brand identity, including logos, websites, and marketing materials. I’m passionate about helping people express their work and ideas through intuitive design. Let’s create something awesome together!
